Bait is used to draw something in, to bring something in closer. Bait can be used in several different ways. Sometimes bait is used in traps, as a food source to catch fish, crabs or to catch other water marine life. Bait can also be used in cages to lure in an unsuspecting animal into a trap. Bait is also used in human-to-human interactions. It is possible to avoid the bait and not get caught in the trap.
Using bait in traps to catch fish, crabs or other marine life is done by providing a food source that these species are attracted to. Once caught in the trap these species then become food for the person that was able to lure them into the trap by using a bait. To avoid being dinner for the trapper, the marine life that is being sought after could avoid the trap by not going after the bait.
When bait is used in cages to trap unsuspecting animals the trapper uses a bait that appeals to the taste buds of the animal that is being sought after. Some of the animals that are trapped could be bears, squirrels, birds, or other wildlife. These animals could be caught as a food source or relocated to different areas or held captive as pets. These animals can refuse to go after the bait, thus avoiding getting caught in the trap that was set for them.
Bait is also used in human-to-human interactions. This kind of bait is different, because it’s not a physical bait, like the other ways it was described as being used. However, the hope for this type of bait is that it will have the same outcome, to draw someone into a trap. One person may speak to another person in a degrading tone and with the use of vulgar language. This type of interaction is done with the intention to insult the other person, to draw them into an argument. Individuals may try to bait another party into a meaningless confrontation by using trigger words in a conversation to upset, attack and humiliate with the end result, being to draw the other party into their world of unhappiness. The intention of one person being offensive to another person is to cause an undeserving person to be drawn into their world of self-dissatisfaction and to make the other person look as foolish as they themselves appear.
The bible has scriptures that makes references to avoiding taking the bait. It reads in Exodus 14;14 The Lord shall fight for you, and ye shall hold your peace. Not being drawn in to take the bait is an example of trusting God to fight your battles. Ignoring people that come off harsh and abrasive is not a sign of weakness, it shows strength and restraint. Not every comment is deserving of a response. The best thing to do is to avoid conflict and not get trapped by taking the bait. I Will, Will You?
