How Important Is the Packaging?

What makes up packaging? Packaging is made in various sizes, colors, and are made from different types of materials. Most packaging is used to keep items together, to secure items, or as a protective barrier. Packaging can be used as a label to identify a product. It can be a covering, with a colorful mixture of images and cutouts. The packaging is generally put on display to draw attention to the item. The packaging is a dressing to draw attention, but with some packaging the contents contained in the packaging has no substance, no worth or value.  Distributors design packaging to draw attention to their products with the hope of selling more products. Occasionally a greater investment maybe put into the packaging rather than in the contents or into the safety of the contents. In some cases, more attention is given to the packaging with little regards to what’s inside of the packaging.

When the packaging is extra fancy, the cost of the packaging may cause the price of the merchandise to be inflated. Feelings of being let down may occur when the packaging has all the bells and whistles and the look checks all the boxes for a good eye-catching design, but the contents are lacking. Individuals also use packaging, like fancy clothes, jewelry, shoes, titles, and other outward adorning methods to dress up their packaging. Feelings of disappointment may occur with individuals when they have no substance in their packaging. Often packaging can be used as a protective barrier, a way to conveniently move and carry items.  Packaging can have shrink wrap on them to hold the contents together. Boxes, flimsy bags, to strong and durable plastics can be used on packaging. Packaging can be made of paper or made from hard cardboard. Regardless of the type of packaging that is used, the contents are what should be of value.

Scripture in the bible addresses how important the inward contents are more important than the outward packaging.  It reads in 1 Peter 3: 3-4 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel; 4But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. The verse is about how the outward packaging is not more important than the inward contents of a person. Individuals should put more effort in correcting what’s in the heart, living a life that according to God’s words. The contents of the individual should be the things that which is not corruptible. I Will, Will You?
