Bottom Up

Have you ever heard the quote by Jessie Jackson that reads, “Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping him up”.  You should never be so high up that you look down on an individual unless you are looking down to lift them up? What does it mean to start at the bottom? There are not many individuals that would believe it’s a good idea to start at the bottom. When individuals are looking to build their career, not many seek to start at the bottom.

Starting at the bottom when it comes to reading a page from a book is not desired, because the flow of the story or the article gets distorted. The page in the book is written to be read from the top to bottom, if read any other way it would be read backwards or from the bottom to the top. No one wants to start at the bottom, because society has instilled in others that the bottom is a lonely place to be. Everyone wants to be on the top.

What would it feel like to love from the bottom? To get to know and love individuals from the bottom up, love them where they are and for who they are. You should strive to build relationships with people from the bottom up. Most people look up to superstars, celebrities, sport athletes and individuals that are well known. Those who are viewed as being on the top, on the top of their game and most people want to know them or be affiliated with them in some way or another. Not many people want to rub elbows with those at the bottom, those that are unknown and struggling, to lift their heads or stay above water. What would happen if everyone would learn to love from the bottom up.

Loving from the bottom up might be the answer to allowing everyone to rise together. Rising together would level the playing field and one day cause more eye contact. It reads in Proverbs 3:27 “Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it.” The scripture instructs the reader when the power is in their hand to not withhold good from anyone that it is due. As a society there should be a desire to see those that maybe down on their luck and need a hand up. Be prepared to stand in the gap for those that have lost their way. Starting at the bottom could be a new way for all to reach the top or be on the same level. I Will, Will You?
