Burnt Bridges

Updated: Oct 5, 2023

Is it possible that a bridge that has been burnt can never be crossed again and the only useful purpose is for the burnt bridge is to be used for firewood? Not all bridges can be burnt, because they are constructed from many different materials. A bridge can be constructed from concrete, steel, wood, or person to person connections. Bridges are constructed to allow passage over waterways, highways, train tracks or make a connection.

A bridge made of concrete provides the most stable foundation because the structure is reinforced with rods and beams that are embedded in the concrete for support. Bridges made from steel are sturdy but also provides a level of flexibility.

The steel bridge may be placed on a concrete foundation to provide structural support. Some bridges made of steel can open by tilting up and lower to close. A steel bridge can also, move to the side. The purpose of the bridge being flexible is to allow large ships to pass through a river or a canal. Once the vessel has safely passed through, the bridge goes back to its original position to allow the passage of vehicles and pedestrians to cross over it.

A bridge made from wood can be burnt. Bridges that are burnt are impassable until some form of restoration is performed. Bridges made from wood or old railroad post might be the easiest to burn. The wood from the burnt bridge becomes easy to burn because the wood becomes dry and brittle from lack of treatment to keep it maintained. The wood from the bridge that has been burnt, technically falls apart and is not structurally sound to hold anything or can connect with the remaining parts of the bridge that has not been burnt.

Relationships between family and friends have a bridge connecting them together. Relationships that have fallen apart are sometimes referred to as an individual that has burnt their bridge with another person. When the relationship between two individuals is built from the components that are made of wood, they burn easier. When it comes to your relationships, and the relationships that you have constructed with family and friends make sure that the bridge that connects you to them are constructed from concrete with the flexibility of steel and the durability of Christ. Bridges are used to make a connection from one side to another or person to person. The bridge can be hoisted up over water, traffic, land, or connected by individuals. Once a bridge is destroyed or burnt, the connection is lost to the other side, until there is some form of restoration. Restoration is required for bridges to be reconnected. Relationships need the flexibility of a bridge, made to adjust, be open to change or offer forgiveness when there are issues.

One bridge that can never be burnt or destroyed is the one that God has constructed between him and those that believe in him. The bridge is Jesus. It reads in John 14:6, Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” The scripture is about the bridge that God has created for his believers with Jesus as the bridge. The bridge with God through Jesus can always be used to connect and reconnect. The bridge that God has constructed between him, Jesus, and his believers are not made from concrete, steel, or wood. However, its connection is indestructible and is available for all that believe in him. Regardless of what is used to construct the bridge, the only purpose of the bridge is to make a connection, make sure that your connection includes Christ. I Will, Will You?
