When adversity comes and knocks at the door should it be answered? If answered, how should it be answered? In order to know if you are faced with adversity, you must have an understanding of what adversity means. According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, it reads, that adversity is defined as a state or instance of serious or continued difficulty or misfortune. When faced with serious or continued difficulty or misfortune, what is the best approach that should be taken to combat it?
Choosing to look away from adversity, is choosing to not face it. When the choice is made to not face adversity, it is common for an individual to hold their head down. Holding one’s head down is a sign of defeat and prevents the individual from moving forward with a clear view of what’s ahead on the path. Without having a clear view of the path ahead, the view is obscured. A path that is obscured prevents the individual from remaining hopeful, and to make plans on how to maneuver around things on the path. Looking down will result in slow progress and keep individuals from moving forward on a clear path. Holding one’s head down will have the inability to view the obstacles that might be on the path as individuals are moving forward. It might be comfortable for an individual to lower their head because of the pressures from adversity when it strikes, but is it the correct approach? The lowering of one’s head could be the result of negative feelings that have been building internally and the result of convincing oneself that it’s impossible to overcome the feelings they are currently experiencing when faced with adversity.
However, when adversity strikes, learn to strike back with a head held high and a plan to combat it. Lifting the head up appears to be the most logical choice to make when faced with adversity. Looking up, tilting the head up provides a clear view of what’s ahead. Having the ability to see what’s ahead, provides an avenue of hope. The best way to combat adversity is to face it head on. The best approach to take is to look adversity in the face and move away from it. To face adversity in the face an individual would need to keep their head up, take an assessment of the adversity, to see where it’s coming from. Next step would be to look ahead, create a plan, view the path to see where they are going, and move forward.
Adversity is a common occurrence and can happen when an individual least expects it. The bible also writes about adversity and how it should be addressed. It reads in 2 Corinthians 12:9 “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.” As a believer of Christ, the believer should not feel defeated when adversity comes. When the feelings of defeat are too much to overcome, hope exists in the one that can make sense of it all. So, when adversity comes knocking at the door, add some faith to the situation, and face adversity with the strength and power that comes from the one that can help any situation. I Will, Will You?
